This section describes how to install and run Swyx in a Hyper-V virtual machine.

Swyx is installed in its entirety with SQL Server Express in a virtual machine. Alternatively, Swyx can be installed without SQL Express, and the database can be run on an existing SQL Server cluster.

Microsoft offers several features to make virtual machines highly available.

To ensure that Hyper-V can monitor not only the VM but also the Swyx instance running within it, install the Swyx HealthMonitor service in addition to Swyx. This component monitors the Swyx services and manages the Hyper-V Heartbeat interface, transmitting the status to Hyper-V via the Hyper-V Heartbeat Integration Services. Microsoft's Failover Cluster can use this status information, for example, to restart the VM.
