1 The Basics
Basic Technical Concepts of Swyx
Swyx is available in different versions: Swyx for installation on the customer's network, and the cloud-based versions—Swyx for Data Center and SwyxON —which are accessible to the customer from the data center.
The descriptions in this manual apply primarily to the "Swyx" version. Specific features of Swyx for Data Center and SwyxON are highlighted separately.
Swyx for Data Center and SwyxON
"Swyx for Data Center" and " SwyxON " are cloud-based versions of the Swyx telephony system and offer customers highly scalable telephony services. The telephony servers remain with the provider for this purpose and are installed and configured according to the customer's wishes.
The customer installs only the telephony clients, either as on the employees' PCs or as stand-alone IP telephones, e.g. from the SwyxPhone family. These telephony clients then connect via IP to the telephony server managed at the provider. If the customer wishes, his system administrator can also be allowed to maintain his own telephony server. To this end, Swyx offers the option of administration at various levels; see 9.3 Administration profiles. Each customer company has its own telephony server. All servers are screened from one another, so that a customer administrator can only configure his own server.
Telephony services are billed through a reporting system that takes into account the extent to which individual users are authorized to use Swyx's features. Each user's scope for use is defined by the provider or by the reseller, with the help of so-called features profiles (9.2 Function profile).
